Steps to a Dry Basement

1. Excavation

The most labor-intensive part of the job is excavation. Heavy equipment is used to remove soil and debris to the full wall height down to the footings, exposing the weeping tile. This can be up to eight feet deep. The excavation area is cleared several feet wide to allow technicians to work and can span the length of one wall or the entire house perimeter.

2. Wall Cleaning & Examination

Once the exterior foundation is exposed, the area is power washed to remove soil and any loose concrete. This allows experts to identify and address the root of your water infiltration problems by examining the foundation for cracks or other openings.

3. Repair Foundation Cracks

Cracks and holes in the foundation walls are filled with high-strength hydraulic cement, restoring structural integrity. This material typically hardens within a couple of hours and can be smoothed with a trowel.

4. Liquid Membrane Installation

A liquid membrane is trowel-applied to provide waterproof protection to foundation walls, footings, and other construction materials. This rubberized asphalt finish helps bridge cracks and holes, offering additional protection against water infiltration.

5. Glass Fabric Application

An open weave glass fabric, is applied for extra protection against rotting, mildew, and water wicking. Its bright yellow color ensures complete coverage of the coating compound by revealing any exposed areas during application.

6. Aqua-Bloc Second Coat

A second layer of Aqua-Bloc liquid membrane is added for enhanced protection of the foundation.

7. Installation of Drain Tile

To relieve excessive pressure on the foundation walls, a weeping tile system is installed to drain off water. This system includes layers of washed gravel, perforated PVC pipe that drains away from the house, and filtration fabric to prevent dirt from clogging the system.

8. The Final Layers

The final steps involve covering the weeping tile with 16 inches of gravel and backfilling the entire excavation area with soil.
